4.1. Methodological overview

The methodology followed in this course is oriented towards the achievement of the learning objectives. A wide range of teaching and learning tasks are implemented, such as lectures, practice sessions, autonomous work, study and assessment tasks.

Students are expected to participate actively in class throughout the semester.

Further information regarding the course will be provided on the first day of class.

4.2. Learning tasks

The course includes the following learning tasks:

  • Lectures.
  • Practice sessions.
  • Autonomous work and study.
  • Assessment tasks.

4.3. Syllabus

The course will address the following topics:

  1. The study of linguistic use. Discourse analysis, conversational analysis, textual linguistics. Dialogical pragmatics. The critical analysis of discourse.
  2. Discourse analysis in Hispanic linguistic studies.
  3. The communicative framework. Discourse, text and context.
  4. Types of discourse and types of text in Spanish. Textual genres and typologies. Written discourse and verbal discourse.
  5. Discourse structure in Spanish. The grammatical component. The pragmatic component. The textual component.
  6. Adequacy, coherence and cohesion.
  7. Analysis of relevant phenomena for the characterisation of discourse in Spanish through the study of various types of texts. Presentation, argument, description, narration and prescription. Dialogue. Administrative, legal, scientific/ technical, journalistic, advertising and literary texts.
